A weekend in September

Saturday was spent at home doing nothing much. Really.

Sunday was more productive. Church in the morning, then over to a friend's place to help set up his new Dell PC. The setting up was quite ok, except for the fact that I had to help do some "spring cleaning". Installation of software took some time... Had to uninstall some pre-installed software, then install the desired ones. It took quite a bit of time for Windows update as well, not to mention all the other updates.

The specifications of his SGD1.3k Dell PC:

Hmm hardware looks good but the software part pretty cmi.

Anyway what's a 56k PCI Data/Fax modem doing on a computer these days? What a waste of a PCI slot.

Boon

Yea... Hardware-wise not bad. Not the high-end stuff, but decent enough for the price.

Ha. Software I'm not that bothered... As long as Windows XP is original, it's good enough :P

Oh, Singnet can be quite sucky at times. 56k is for emergencies when Singnet is down and there's a need to access the Internet. Not much other use for the PCI slot anyway.

Actually it's a really good buy, considering that the software is genuine. Of course I'll still prefer buying a custom made one and pirate all the software.

56k modem, as notsniw said, is for emergencies. It might come in handy at times, and it's a standard fixture on all PCs. Of course it's quite retarded not to have it integrated into the motherboard... and is indeed a waste of a PCI slot.

Then again, I doubt their PCI slots are PCI-Express or above for any noteworthy self-upgrades. It's still a sucky Dell PC in my opinion. Real PC users will never use a Dell unless they have too.
