Peaced

Take a look at my FLASHbox here:
http://myflashbox.notsniw.net
Take a look at this FLASH shoutbox that was released by a particular person today:
http://shoutbox.mrbasic.nl

Take note of the smiley panel that is being used. Find them very similar?

Well, my smiley panel was modified from this one... and it took me quite some time to do it. I do suspect that my FLASHbox smiley panel was "kopped" by that person. I mean... it's looks totally the same as mine lah. And my smiley panel is I do one loh. The layout and everything. Even the close button for my smiley panel was drawn by me. The original smiley component looks rather different from my modified one. How not to suspect?

It's not impossible that the smiley panel was "kopped", since software like Sothink SWF Decompiler is available in the market today, not to mention pirated versions. Perhaps it's my fault for not taking enough precautions. Ah well, nothing major also. Just a shoutbox, just hours spent on "perfecting" it, just a smiley panel only wad.

Ok, I'm fine le...

next time do make some effort to copyright your works. just a line in your coding or compiled works to show who started the thing. this is a small proggie, future ones might cost you dearly.

take it positive. it's a sign to work on somethin more cool. or make somethin new to this shoutbox, which can really grow your community. i doubt he can duplicate everythin at the end of the day. and make sure it's secured this time. 8)

which reminds me...

can you pls add a line or some paragraph, showin some copyright info in your shoutbox website?

i went thru it, and it does look like an 'invitation to treat' site and proggie.

that should cut down some issues proper.

Hey, thanks for the advice... Well, people can't see a line in the coding since FLASH is a compiled thingy. Anyone who can decompile FLASH can take the parts and use I guess.

Thanks for the encouragement though. I'll take note not to make things in FLASH from now on :P FLASH is not that good when it comes to security. It's cool, but not that safe.

nothin is safe actually. but you add some protection when you put a copyright link.

take it as a lesson learn, of the many to come.

as far as i'm concern, flash is still a good software to work from. not everyone know how to decompile a swf file to fla. and if i'm not wrong, during the conversion, there's still a way to embed the copyright into the swf. go check it out. it'll serve the same purpose as a watermark in image files. also consider if the code can be encrypted in anyway to prevent reading. just like how kokoro's flash animations were buried in the decompiled fla file.

and seriously, take up the challenge. stretch the flashbox a bit further (more functions etc), i believe you'd come up with somethin really cool, and i'd like to see if he'd still hijack the swf for copying.

and then we go back there on a daily basis, and post our flashbox link to pull his users over. heh.

Well, my FLASHbox has more functions, but I'm pissed basically because he passed off what I modified as his own work and he's distributing it free for other people to download. My FLASHbox with smilies will no longer be special le... :/ My intellectual property has been stolen and given free to other people by someone I don't know. It's just saddening.

Well, I can always generate the actionscript required using PHP, so that no one can see... but I don't know how it will affect the way my FLASHbox works.
